News about the MCU’s Fantastic Four reboot has been mostly absent since it was announced. During a recent interview, the film’s director Matt Shakman spoke on if the recent drama around Marvel Studios has affected the project.
Marvel Studios has been facing a lot of backlash in recent years. From mocking what many view as a mediocre Multiverse Saga, to critical failures like Ant-Man 3, the MCU can’t seem to catch a break. Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman recently spoke about this swell of controversy during a podcast appearance, assuring fans it’s had no affect on the film:
“It hasn’t. I mean, we’ve been on our process consistently,” Shakman told The Discourse Podcast. “I’ve been on the project for a little over a year and working away hard at it the way we’d work on any film at Marvel, and certainly, the way we worked on Wandavision…”
It’s certainly a relief to hear that the Fantastic Four reboot hasn’t been hurt by the MCU’s recent struggles. Given the franchise hasn’t had the greatest history when it comes to film adaptations, it seems as though Marvel’s first family is finally in good hands with Matt Shakman and his team.
What we know about the Fantastic Four movie
The Fantastic Four reboot is expected to be a fresh take on the classic Marvel characters, with a new cast. Matt Shakman is directing the movie from a screenplay by Josh Friedman. It is currently scheduled to hit theaters in 2025.
John Krasinski played the Earth-838 variant of Reed Richards in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but his future as the character is currently in doubt. Krasinski’s wife Emily Blunt has said that she’s hopeful we’ll see the actor back as Richards for Fantastic Four.
