Hey Disney+ fans! If you’re a fan of horror-thriller series, then you’ll be delighted to know that Disney+ has renewed its first Japanese original series, Gannibal, for a second season! The House of Mouse dropped a teaser trailer, giving us a glimpse of what’s in store for us (check it out below!).
Gannibal’s first season was a huge hit and played a significant role in Disney+’s venture into Japanese live-action series production. Since its release in December 2022, it has become the most-watched locally produced original series in Japan on the streaming service. Yuya Yagira, the star of Gannibal, even earned a best actor nomination at the upcoming Busan International Film Festival’s Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards. Impressive, right?
Now, let’s talk about the second season. We can expect some familiar faces to return, including Yuya Yagira as police officer Daigo Agawa, Show Kasamatsu as Keisuke Goto, the head of the Goto family, and Riho Yoshioka as Yuki Agawa, Daigo’s strong and supportive wife. These talented actors are sure to deliver exceptional performances once again.
In case you’re unfamiliar with the series, Gannibal is set in a fictional Japanese village and revolves around Daigo, a police officer starting a new job and a new life. However, he soon realizes that something is terribly wrong with the villagers and the mysterious Goto family who seem to have control over the town. This thrilling series takes viewers on an emotional rollercoaster, leaving them on a heart-stopping cliffhanger at the end of the first season.
Season two will be directed by Shinzo Katayama and written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Takamasa Oe. The show is based on a popular Japanese manga series by Masaaki Ninomiya. Disney promises that the upcoming season will unravel more horrifying secrets about the village and test Daigo’s ability to escape the impossible and bring the nefarious Goto family to justice.
