Who will lead the jury for Asia Pacific Screen Awards?

Clara Law, the acclaimed director known for films like “The Goddess of 1967,” has been chosen as the president of the jury for this year’s Asia Pacific Screen Awards. The awards ceremony will take place on November 4 in Gold Coast, Queensland and will be accompanied by three days of seminars and screenings.

Law will be joined on the jury by Yeo Yann Yann from Malaysia, Anna Katchko from Germany, and Faisal Baltyuor from Saudi Arabia. Another separate jury will be responsible for judging documentaries and animations, led by Midi Z from Taiwan, Rima Das from India, and Toda Hikaru from Japan.

The Asia Pacific Screen Awards are presented by the Asia Pacific Screen Academy, the City of Gold Coast, Screen Queensland, the Motion Picture Association, and Griffith Film School. The nominations for the awards will be announced on October 4.

Law, who now resides in Australia but has previously worked in Hong Kong and Macau, is well-known for her films “Floating Life” and “Letters to Ali.” Her most recent completed work is “Drifting Petals.”

In other news, the annual MAMA Awards, which celebrate K-Pop music, will be moving to Tokyo Dome this year. The ceremony, operated by CJ ENM, will take place on November 29. The MAMA Awards aim to acknowledge outstanding K-Pop artists as chosen by global fans, promoting the value of music and bringing fans together regardless of region, background, or generation.

Finally, Screen Australia’s First Nations Department and Network 10 have selected six projects to receive production funding through the First Facts: First Nations Factual Showcase. Each project will receive up to A$70,000 ($45,000) in funding. The chosen projects include “Anangu Way,” “Burabura,” “Firekeepers Flames of Renewal: Fighting for Cultural Survival,” “Joonba,” “Life After Footy,” and “Re-Imagining Our Futures.” These documentaries aim to showcase the stories and perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
