In her Instagram post, Vardalos expressed her concern over the cancellation of her health insurance and speculated that other writers may be facing the same issue. She also warned fellow actors that they might be next in line to lose their coverage.
However, Vardalos clarified that her health insurance was not canceled because her film, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3,” was released in theaters during the strike. She emphasized that the cast had followed all strike rules and stood in solidarity with their unions.
The actress went on to explain that the loss of her health insurance was due to other factors. Vardalos ended her post with a plea for assistance from others involved with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA, urging them to come together to support those who have lost their health insurance and income.
Vardalos emphasized the need for better coverage for writers, highlighting the struggles faced by crews, stylists, directors, producers, and actors who are currently without income. She proposed the idea of organizing a benefit or fundraising event to help those in need and extended an invitation for collaboration from organizations such as WGAW, WGAE, SAG-AFTRA, and Fran Drescher.
