Is Gareth Edwards’ Sci-Fi Epic ‘The Creator’ the Opening Film for Beyond Fest?

Gareth Edwards’ highly anticipated sci-fi epic, ‘The Creator’, is set to open the Beyond Fest in Los Angeles. Starring John David Washington and Gemma Chan, the film explores a world at war with artificial intelligence. The action-packed thriller, produced by 20th Century studios, also features Allison Janney and newcomer Madeleine Voyles. Audiences can catch the screening at the Aero Theatre.

The closing night film at Beyond Fest will be Kristoffer Borgli’s comedy satire, ‘Dream Scenario’, starring the iconic Nicolas Cage and distributed by A24.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there! The festival has lined up some incredible special guests. James Cameron, the renowned filmmaker, will be attending to present a special screening of his 1989 film, ‘The Abyss’. Michael Mann will also be hosting a screening of his 1986 film, ‘Manhunter’, and actor Malcolm McDowell will join in for a special screening of the 1979 film, ‘Caligula: The Ultimate Cut’.

The lineup continues to impress with Joe Dante, director of the 1978 thriller ‘Piranha’, hosting a screening of his own film. Legendary filmmaker Roger Corman will attend a special screening of ‘The Raven’ from 1963. And if that weren’t enough, Guillermo del Toro himself will present his 2013 blockbuster, ‘Pacific Rim’, in-person.

The 11th edition of Beyond Fest promises even more exciting premieres. This year, they will host the world premiere of ‘It’s a Wonderful Knife’, introduced by director Tyle Macintyre. The festival will run from September 26 to October 10 and will also feature films starring rising star Paul Mescal. Andrew Haigh’s ‘All of Us Strangers’ and Garth Davis’ psychological drama ‘Foe’ are among the anticipated titles. Justine Triet’s Palme d’Or winner, ‘Anatomy of a Fall’, and Kitty Green’s outback thriller, ‘The Royal Hotel’, are also set to premiere.

Evrim Ersoy, the head of programming for Beyond Fest, expressed their goal to make this year’s edition even bigger while introducing audiences to new filmmakers who represent the future. With over 19,000 attendees in 2022, Beyond Fest is poised to deliver another unforgettable cinematic experience.
