Is Friday the 13th considered a “dream project” for Blumhouse?

Friday the 13th, the iconic horror franchise, is set to make its long-awaited return to the big screen with the help of Blumhouse. Known for producing successful horror movies like the new Halloween trilogy and The Exorcist sequel Believer, Blumhouse is eager to take on the beloved slasher series.

In a recent interview with Inverse, producer Ryan Turek expressed his enthusiasm for resurrecting Friday the 13th, stating, “Jason [Blum] and I are definitely in agreement that Friday the 13th is the thing we would love to get our hands on. I really want to go back to the basics. You don’t need too many ingredients for a Friday the 13th film. You need summer camp, you need campers, and you need Jason Voorhees in a mask.”

The passion for the project at Blumhouse is evident, with Turek adding, “Listen, I’ve gone on the record saying Halloween is the ultimate slasher film for me. That’s my favorite slasher film of all time. But Friday the 13th as a franchise is one that I just bow down to. I just love everything about it. And if we were able to live in both worlds, like we do with Halloween, then to be able to live at Crystal Lake for a while would be so incredible.”

Indeed, Friday the 13th has not seen a new movie since the disappointing 2009 reboot. While a TV series based on the franchise is in the works, it seems like a perfect opportunity for Blumhouse to take charge and deliver a fresh take on the beloved slasher series. Just as David Gordon Green’s Halloween movies successfully continued the stories and characters, fans are eagerly waiting for the return of Jason Voorhees.

Not only is Blumhouse eyeing the film franchise, but the expiration of Gun Media’s Friday the 13th video game license this year also suggests a need for a new cinematic experience with the iconic character.

So, would Friday the 13th be a good fit for Blumhouse? The answer seems to be a resounding yes. With their successful track record and a deep appreciation for the franchise, Blumhouse is poised to breathe new life into Crystal Lake and deliver a thrilling and nostalgic experience for horror fans everywhere.
