Marvel fans rejoice! Blade movie in the works, new director, anticipation grows!

  • Yann Demange is no longer directing Blade for Marvel Studios
  • Blade movie has been troubled with multiple setbacks in production
  • Mahershala Ali is still attached to star in Blade

So, it looks like Yann Demange won’t be directing Marvel’s Blade anymore. And let’s be real, this movie has been having more setbacks than a toddler trying to tie their shoelaces. Just when we thought we were going to sink our teeth into a fresh Blade film, another director jumps ship. I mean, at this rate, we might see Blade hit the big screen around the same time we get hoverboards and flying cars.

According to The Wrap, Demange actually left the project “a while ago” but hey, at least it was an amicable breakup, right? He was supposed to swoop in and save the day after the original director, Bassam Tariq, flew off into the night. But alas, it seems like Blade just can’t catch a break.

In the past five years since the project was announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Blade has been through more writers than I’ve been through boxes of pizza on a cheat day. Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto, and Michael Green have all taken a stab at the script. Now, Eric Pearson is the hero trying to save the day with a new script in hand.

But fear not, Mahershala Ali fans, our man is still on board to play Blade. He even dropped a hint last December that progress is being made. “We’re working on it. That’s the best I could tell you,” he said optimistically. “I’m really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we’ll be back at it relatively soon.” Let’s hope “relatively soon” doesn’t turn into “sometime in the next century.”

Demange had teased that the film would be rated R, which got fans buzzing with excitement. He talked about unleashing Mahershala’s ferocity on the screen and giving Blade the grit he deserves. But with a new creative team in play, who knows what direction Blade will take now. All we know is that the movie is still supposed to hit theaters on November 7, 2025. Place your bets now on whether that date will stick or slide like a buttered-up eel.

Now that Demange is out of the picture, who would you like to see step in and direct Blade? Maybe we should start a petition for Taika Waititi or Christopher Nolan to take the reins. Or maybe just give the job to a Magic 8-Ball and see where fate takes us. At this point, anything is possible.

So, will we ever get to see Blade slice his way through the Marvel universe in his own solo movie? Who knows. But one thing’s for sure, the journey to get there is proving to be one wild rollercoaster ride. Stay tuned, folks. And hey, feel free to share this article with your friends who are just as excited (and frustrated) about the Blade movie as you are. Let’s commiserate together in our anticipation for this long-awaited film.
