Hey there! So, guess who’s taking his BAFTA-nominated show to the land of Kim Jong-Un? That’s right, Munya Chawawa is bringing his viral hit, ‘How to Survive a Dictator’, to North Korea in a Channel 4 docuseries produced by Rumpus Media. This is bound to be a wild ride full of laughs and insights into one of the most secretive regimes in the world.

Chawawa, known for his hilarious TikTok videos and TV appearances, will be diving deep into the world of Kim Jong-Un, from Switzerland to Seoul to even suburban West London. He’s on a mission to track down a school friend of Kim’s and chat with folks who have experienced the Kim regime firsthand. And let’s not forget about Kim’s infamous bromances with the likes of Donald Trump, Dennis Rodman, and Vladimir Putin – who knew dictators could have such interesting friendships?

“It’s been tricky to not feel a sense of ‘apocalypse anxiety’ recently, and a lot of that stems from North Korea and Kim Jong-Un, so doing this doc has not only been fascinating but also given me a strange sense of closure,” said Chawawa. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get an inside look at one of the most enigmatic leaders in the world.

Chawawa’s previous ‘How to Survive a Dictator’ episode on Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe earned him a BAFTA nomination, so we can only imagine the kind of magic he’ll bring to North Korea. Channel 4 specialist factual boss Shaminder Nahal is thrilled about the project, saying, “In his utterly unique style, Munya Chawawa, with the exceptional team from Rumpus, will explore the world of Kim Jong-Un in a surprising and compelling way.”

The project is being spearheaded by ex-Rumpus boss Iain Wimbush, along with Morgan Roberts, and producer/director Tomasz Frymorgan. And even though Wimbush is moving on to start his own indie, we know this docuseries is in good hands.

So, get ready to laugh, cry, and maybe even learn a thing or two about one of the most controversial figures in modern history.
