Josh Brolin begs for Cable cameo in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ with puppy dog eyes.

Josh Brolin won't be reprising his role as Cable in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, he expresses admiration for Hugh Jackman and hints at a possible MCU project where they may cross paths. Will Brolin make the cut as Thanos or Cable in Avengers: Secret Wars? Find out more!

The internet has been losing its collective mind about Deadpool & Wolverine, inspecting every frame of the trailer for unexpected cameos. However, it seems not every mutant could return in the MCU. One notable exception seems to be Josh Brolin’s Cable, who played a large role in Deadpool 2. When recently teased that he was clearly in the film due to a false IMDB listing, Brolin explained that Marvel is an almost impossible to understand system.

“Am I? Yeeeesssss! I so wanted to be in that movie,” Brolin joked to The Playlist. “[Marvel] is a more complex labyrinth than Outer Range will ever be, my friend. And I will never know where that went or what that is or what I’m involved with or what I’m not involved with —the MCU being involved now. Cable was a lot of fun. I really liked doing that role. That was a lot of fun.”

It’s certainly a shame that Josh Brolin won’t be returning as Cable in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, given how much time the film would likely need to spend on his interactions with the TVA in the MCU, it may have been best pacing wise to simply leave his character on the cutting room floor.

Josh Brolin Sings Hugh Jackman’s Praises

Even if Josh Brolin isn’t in Deadpool & Wolverine, that doesn’t mean the actor can’t celebrate the film. During the same interview, Brolin explained how much he loves Hugh Jackman, insisting that the actor ages just about as much as the Marvel character he portrays on screen.

“Hugh [Jackman], I’m absolutely in love with,” Brolin continued. “I know Ryan [Reynolds] now, and I’ve met Hugh a couple of times, and I think when he did Logan—forget it! I mean, Scott Frank, who wrote it, is a good friend of mine and I just think the coming together of [these characters] is just fantastic. And Hugh, I don’t know how old Hugh is now—is he 56, 57? I mean, seriously, the dude doesn’t age. So, yeah. I’m a big fan of his.”

Even if the two won’t meet in Deadpool & Wolverine, it’s likely Josh Brolin and Hugh Jackman will cross paths in another MCU project. Jackman is said to be a high-priority to get in Avengers: Secret Wars. Given how many characters are rumored to be in the film, it almost seems impossible Brolin doesn’t make the cut as either Thanos or Cable.

Deadpool and Wolverine is currently expected to be released on July 26, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
