It was a wild ride where Diesel’s character and a bunch of other crash-landed passengers had to deal with some seriously nasty creatures that only come out at night. And let me tell you, that movie didn’t break the bank, costing only $23 million to make.
But then came The Chronicles of Riddick in 2004, which took things up a notch with a budget of over $100 million. Unfortunately, the grandeur didn’t quite resonate with audiences, and it seemed like the Riddick series might have reached its end.
However, Diesel being the resilient guy that he is, quietly swooped in and acquired the rights to the franchise. And how did he manage to do that, you ask? Well, he struck a deal that involved making a cameo in a Fast and Furious movie. And voila, in 2013, we got Riddick, which brought the series back to its creature feature roots, much to the delight of fans.
Now, in Riddick: Furya, Diesel and director David Twohy are taking us back to Riddick’s homeworld, a place he barely remembers and fears might be in ruins. But hey, there’s no time for nostalgia because there are new monsters to fight, and this time, Riddick discovers there are others like him – Furyans who are not to be messed with.
Behind the scenes, Diesel is not just the star but also the producer, leading the charge under his One Race Films banner alongside his partner and sister, Samantha Vincent. Talk about keeping it in the family, right?
And let’s not forget about the international sales rights, which have already been snagged by Rocket Science. They’ve lined up a bunch of territories where you’ll get to see Riddick in action, including the UK, France, Germany, Spain, and many more. Looks like Riddick is going global, folks!
Now, if you’re wondering who’s handling the North American rights, it’s none other than CAA Media Finance. And in case you were curious, Diesel is repped by CAA and Linden Entertainment, while Twohy’s got John Burnham of Atlas Artists in his corner.
