Did Ridley Scott call Alien: Romulus director’s film “f***ing great”?

Fede Álvarez’s highly anticipated Alien movie, titled Alien: Romulus, is currently in the works and set to hit theaters next year. Excitingly, the film has already been viewed by legendary director Ridley Scott.

During a conversation with Guillermo del Toro at the DGA Latino Summit 2023, Fede Álvarez shared that he nervously screened his director’s cut of Alien: Romulus for Ridley Scott, knowing Scott’s reputation for being tough on films, especially those related to his own works such as Blade Runner 2049. Álvarez even mentioned discussing the new Top Gun film with Scott, who expressed mixed feelings towards it compared to his brother’s original. Álvarez was prepared for Scott’s critical feedback but was determined to face him directly instead of receiving an email with his thoughts. To his surprise, Ridley Scott had nothing but praise for Alien: Romulus.

Álvarez excitedly recalled Scott’s reaction, stating, “For me, it was like… My family knows it was one of the best moments of my life to have a master like him, who I admired so much, to even watch a movie I made but particularly something like this… and talk to me for an hour about what he liked about it. One of the best compliments he said was, ‘The dialogue is great. Are you the writer?’ Yes!”
