So, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like our favorite sci-fi drama, La Brea, is coming to an end with its third season. Yup, you heard that right. The end is nigh for this epic family adventure that has kept us on the edge of our seats with its mysterious and dangerous primeval land shenanigans.
According to Deadline, the series will conclude with a measly 6 episodes in its final season. I mean, come on, can we at least get a little more closure than that? I have so many questions that need answers!
But let’s not dwell on the negative, shall we? We’ve still got those 6 episodes to look forward to, and I have a feeling the writers are going to pack a whole lot of drama and action into those final moments. So, mark your calendars for January 9 at 9 p.m., because that’s when the premiere is going down. And to sweeten the deal, it’s going to serve as a lead-in to the season’s final two episodes of the hit fall drama, Found. So, at least we’ll have something to cheer us up after the inevitable ending of La Brea.
Now, let’s talk about the cast. We’ve got some pretty amazing talent gracing our screens in this show. Natalie Zea, Eoin Macken, Jon Seda, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chiké Okonkwo, Zyra Gorecki, Jack Martin, Veronica St. Clair, Rohan Mirchandaney, Lily Santiago, Josh McKenzie, Tonantzin Carmelo, and Michelle Vergara Moore make up this stellar ensemble. I mean, with a cast like this, it’s no wonder the show has been such a hit.
But before we get too weepy about the end of La Brea, let’s take a moment to appreciate its journey. The series originally received a straight-to-series order after production on its 2020 pilot was derailed by the pandemic. Talk about a rough start, right? But despite the setbacks, it had a solid launch in fall 2021 with a 10-episode first season, and even earned a 14-episode second season renewal. It’s like the little show that could.
Unfortunately, it seems the impending WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have thrown a wrench in the works, leaving NBC with no choice but to opt for a shorter season. And to add salt to the wound, they had to release some of the actors so they’d be open to take other jobs. I mean, talk about a double whammy. It’s like the universe just didn’t want La Brea to thrive.
But hey, let’s give credit where credit is due. Creator/showrunner David Appelbaum and the entire production team have worked their butts off to bring us this incredible show. Executive producers Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman, Peter Traugott, Rachel Kaplan, Chris Hollier, Adam Davidson, Bryan Wynbrandt, Steven Lilien, Ken Woodruff, and Arika Lisanne Mittman have poured their blood, sweat, and tears into making La Brea a reality. And we can’t forget about the folks at Universal Television and Australia’s Matchbox Pictures, both divisions of Universal Studio Group, who have played a pivotal role in bringing this show to life in association with Keshet Studios.
So, as we gear up for the final season of La Brea, let’s cherish every moment and savor the adventure while it lasts. And who knows, maybe we’ll get some closure after all.
