Did Five Nights at Freddy’s surpass Halloween Ends & Super Mario as Peacock’s top-watched film?

In a surprising turn of events, Five Nights at Freddy’s has become the most-watched movie on the Peacock streaming service within just five days of its release. This achievement not only solidifies the film’s success but also highlights its massive popularity among viewers.

Five Nights at Freddy's, Peacock, record

The collaboration between Blumhouse and Universal Pictures on Five Nights at Freddy’s has not only broken box-office records but has now achieved a significant milestone on the Peacock streaming platform. Peacock announced today that the movie has become the most-watched film or series in its first five days, surpassing previous records set by Halloween Ends, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Bel-Air, and The Best Man: The Final Chapters.

Based on the immensely popular video-game franchise, Five Nights at Freddy’s follows the story of Mike (Josh Hutcherson), a troubled young man taking care of his 10-year-old sister Abby (Piper Rubio). Haunted by the decade-old unsolved disappearance of his younger brother, Mike finds himself desperate for work in order to retain custody of Abby. He reluctantly accepts a position as a night security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, an abandoned theme restaurant. However, he soon realizes that nothing at Freddy’s is as it seems. With the help of Vanessa, a local police officer (Elizabeth Lail), Mike’s nights at Freddy’s turn into a series of inexplicable encounters with the supernatural, leading him deep into an indescribable nightmare.

The film’s box-office success has also been remarkable, grossing a staggering $132.7 million globally during its opening weekend. This places Five Nights at Freddy’s right behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie as the second biggest opening weekend for a film based on a video game. Furthermore, it marks the largest opening weekend for a horror film directed by a woman, Emma Tammi.

Interestingly, there is a noticeable disparity between the opinions of critics and the audience regarding Five Nights at Freddy’s. While the film holds a mediocre 28% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score stands at a solid 89%. Our own reviewer, Tyler Nichols, who lacks a personal connection to the video game franchise, wasn’t particularly fond of the movie. In his review, Nichols stated, “I’m sure there are going to be a lot of young people that enjoy Five Nights at Freddy’s and finally seeing these characters up on the big screen. But as someone with no connection to the games and a desire for some kind of narrative that makes sense, this just wasn’t for me. It fails to scare, fails to entertain, and fails to set up an interesting world. One night at Freddy’s was more than enough.”
