Is ‘Deadpool 3’ abandoning May 2024 release date due to SAG-AFTRA strike?

The 2024 summer blockbuster season has just taken a hit as Marvel Studios officially announces the delay of ‘Deadpool 3’ from its May 2024 release date due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

Marvel Studios had been desperately hoping to keep the coveted May 2024 release date for ‘Deadpool 3’ despite the strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA. The film was even labeled as the studio’s “top priority” post-strikes, indicating their determination to meet the deadline. However, recent breakdowns in talks have forced the delay of ‘Deadpool 3’.

At this point, it remains uncertain when ‘Deadpool 3’ will find its new release date. The next Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, is set to debut on July 26, 2024. Since filming for that project has already been completed, Marvel Studios may consider swapping the release dates to maintain their schedules. However, until the SAG-AFTRA strike is resolved, no one can say for certain.

Who’s Involved in the Making of ‘Deadpool 3’?

‘Deadpool 3’ will be directed by Shawn Levy, who previously collaborated with Ryan Reynolds on ‘Free Guy’ and ‘The Adam Project’. Additionally, Levy will reunite with Hugh Jackman, whom he worked with on ‘Real Steel’.

The script for ‘Deadpool 3’ is being developed by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the same duo who wrote the first two installments of the series. The project has also undergone previous drafts by the Molyneux sisters.

As of now, ‘Deadpool 3’ does not have a confirmed release date due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
